Darren Preston, the present Treasurer and original founder of Dare to Strive, is a multi-faceted entrepreneur that is passionate for food, music, animal rights, and Black empowerment. He is the founder and CEO of the popular Oakland-based burger joint called Malibu's Burgers that is 100% plant-based. In 2021, Darren Preston and Malibu's Burgers were featured in the Hulu documentary "The Next Thing You Eat." Darren Preston was born and raised in New York City and moved to the Bay Area when he attended Menlo College for a business degree in 2008.

In 2016, Darren Preston began operating Dare to Strive as a program that focused on teaching at-risk youth in the Bay Area about entrepreneurship and achieving financial freedom. Today, Dare to Strive has placed special emphasis on the way food entrepreneurship and knowledge can be the root of personal financial freedom as well as community wellbeing.​​
